Letter: Paying for housing isn’t the issue — it’s the laws hindering it
Issue not paying for more
housing but laws curbing it
Re: “Legislate
that corporations must house their workers” (Letter to the
editor, Feb. 2):
A recent letter-writer condemned the actions of state dictates
to lessen zoning laws and environmental restrictions and other
laws/regulations concerning development.
Her “solution” is to legislate that corporations house their
workers.
The issue really is not how to pay for additional housing but
rather that various local and state laws and regulations prevent or
hinder further development.
Witness the difficulties that Google is facing trying to develop
office and housing in downtown San Jose.

The corporations would be stymied by the existing laws/regulations
to provide said housing, even if they were legislated to provide
such. The letter’s solution fails to recognize the real problem.
