Bay Area restaurants’ Inauguration Day specials honor Kamala Harris

Want to celebrate the inauguration of Bay Area native Kamala
Harris as vice president? Local restaurants, bars and food
purveyors have created specials based on her Black, Asian and
Oakland heritage along with her first-female-VP status. Some of
these will be available after Inauguration Day too:

Lauren Herpich, who operates Local Food
in Oakland, has put together a Kamala Harris
Local Love Gift Box, which combines a package of Mom’s Scratch
Recipe Corn Bread from Everett and Jones BBQ, tea from Papillon
Quality Coffee, wildflower honey from the Oakland Honey Co., garam
masala spice blend from Oaktown Spice Shop, a waffle coupon for the
Home of Chicken and Waffles, plus an American flag to wave during
the inauguration.

At the Home of Chicken and Waffles in Oakland,
restaurateur Derreck Johnson, a longtime friend of Harris, has
taken one of her favorites, collard greens, and created a
commemorative entree. The Kamala, a Collard Greens Chicken Lasagna,
even inspired a new wall mural at the restaurant.

Aurum, a new Indian bistro in Los Altos, is
offering a Royal Feast for Two. Chef Manish Tyagi says this
celebration of India’s diverse cuisine consists of three main
courses, three small plates, sides of dal, rice, naan, pappadum,
raita, chutneys and a chocolate dessert. The meal will be available
for takeout and delivery through Jan. 31.

Oliveto restaurant in Oakland has created a
multi-course takeout meal that pays tribute to both Harris and Joe
Biden. The East to West Coast Feed features Joe’s Delaware Clam
Chowder, Kamala’s East Bay BBQ Combo, Mac and Cheese and Apple
Crisp with Cinnamon Cream. The meal will be available through Jan.

The female-founded Smitten Ice Cream has
churned a new flavor, MVP, in honor of Madam Vice President — a
malted, salted vanilla ice cream studded with pecan pralines. You
can enjoy a scoop now at Bay Area locations. Alas, the pints with
the commemorative lid aren’t stocked at shops, but you can order
one for delivery next week.
